Anna Kendrick's directorial debut is an outstanding success. Inspired by true events, it tells the story of Cheryl (Kendrick), a struggling actress who lands a spot on a popular 70s TV bachelor show and unwittingly chooses Rodney Alcala. Unbeknownst to her, he is a charming and intelligent serial killer who preys on vulnerable individuals. Kendrick delivers her best performance as Cheryl, showcasing a wide range of emotions that allow us to feel her growing terror as she realizes the truth about Rodney. Her direction is just as impressive, skillfully weaving suspense and humor into a cohesive visual narrative. Ian McDonald's screenplay is excellent, and the writing pairs seamlessly with her direction. Daniel Zovatto is chillingly convincing as the cold-blooded Rodney, potentially earning him an award for this role. Every character leaves a lasting impression, and each line resonates. The hour-and-a-half runtime flies by. The film concludes on a dark note, with a crawl detailing Alcala's gruesome murders over a decade. Everything about this movie works. It’s one of the best films of 2024.Leggi tutto
