I really enjoyed the film. I think, the film boasts impressive CGI and practical effects that make you feel immersed in ancient Rome. Denzel delivers an outstanding performance and is a strong Oscar contender. The blood and gore are also highly entertaining, especially in Colosseum fight scenes.
On the downside, Paul Mezcal, though a talented actor, didn't quite deliver the strong presence needed for his role. As a leader inciting rebellion, he lacked the charisma to truly captivate audiences, especially in group scenes.
The story is solid but not groundbreaking. It complements the original Gladiator and offers some fan service, though it doesn't stand on its own as a masterpiece. The score is good, but it could've been more impactful, especially in pivotal moments.
Overall, Gladiator 2 is a worthy follow-up, one of the better films of 2024, and will likely get some Oscar buzz. Still, it doesn’t quite reach the heights of its predecessor.
